It is the struggle between that which decides to serve something greater than ourselves and that in us which wishes to take only for ourselves. It is the liberation of that egoism that is the second and deeper meaning of the saying "Die before you are death". The arising in man of that which can truly be called the Immortal Soul comes from this final struggle, when he sees in himself that which is  ready to surrender itself altogether to service to the higher and that in him which altogether repudiates this.
